Local transportation

The public transportation system in Tampere includes bus and taxi services.

Tampere City Transport's blue and white buses offer an extensive service network of 26 routes covering the entire city. A single ticket for €2,5 is valid for one hour inside Tampere's city limits.

The Tourist Card is the ideal public transport alternative for tourists and other occasional travellers in the city. The card is valid for one or more days after its first use and allows an unlimited number of trips. The price depends on the passenger’s age and the ticket’s period of validity. No extra fee is charged on late-night buses. Because the Tourist Card is personal, it must have the cardholder’s signature.

When entering the bus, you insert the card into the card reader. The card is valid within the limits of the City of Tampere on all buses that have the joint local transport symbol. When you use the Tourist Card for the first time, the ticketing machine prints a receipt showing the expiry date. You should keep the receipt for as long as the card is valid.

Tourist Cards are sold at the City Transport Information by the Central Square, and also at the R-kioski in the railway station, Elintarvikekioski by the Central Square and the bus station.

Taxis are very reliable and have meters indicating the fare. Tips are not necessary. The number for a taxi is from a mobile telephone 01004131 and from a normal telephone 10041.
