The Finnish EveningHow to be a Finn – don’t go home without it! Our most popular evening event has turned out to be the ‘Finnish Evening’. And what better way to relax after a busy day at a conference than the gentle warmth of a wood-heated sauna followed by a dip in a clean and refreshing lake? Then it’s on to the camp fire to cook some sausage or salmon before ending the evening with a little Finnish sport – like rowing and boot throwing! A favourite spot for the Finnish Evening is Viikinsaari Island, only 20 minutes by boat from the city centre. On the island there’s a beautiful wooden restaurant that seats 280 people, a dance floor, two saunas, mini golf, a little chapel and a nature trail. Viikinsaari is suitable for events with up to 2,000 guests. A short excursion from Tampere – 30 minutes by bus or an hour by boat – brings visitors to the Murikka conference and education centre. Murikka is beautifully situated by Lake Näsijärvi and provides numerous opportunities for outdoor activities in the surrounding forests. The saunas at Murikka offer conference delegates a truly Finnish experience. There are also several sizeable saunas in the vicinity of Tampere. They usually have a sitting room and a fireplace so that everyone can enjoy themselves – even those who would rather not try the sauna. |
